Frequently asked questions

Why should I have a foot assessment done?

Diabetes has the potential to cause changes to the small blood vessels, nerves and skin. As our feet are constantly under pressure, they are particularly vulnerable.  Hence it is paramount all patients diagnosed with diabetes have an annual assessment to detect changes and prevent complications.

How often should I have a Diabetes Foot Assessment?

Diabetes Australia recommends an annual assessment.  Your initial appointment will help to guide the frequency and need for ongoing review.

What should I expect?
  • Comprehensive assessment of the circulation in your feet, including a doppler ultrasound study;
  • Painless testing of the nerves of the feet;
  • A thorough check of all skin surfaces of the feet;
  • A structural/biomechanical assessment; and
  • A footwear and activity assessment.
